Established as a subsidiary of Shenzhen Energy Group, a leading Chinese energy company, Asogli Power's creation was part of Ghana's strategy to diversify its energy sources and attract foreign investment into its thermal power sector.

The company’s flagship project, the Sunon Asogli Power Plant, is situated in Kpone near Tema, Ghana’s industrial hub. Initiated in 2008, the plant’s first phase involved the construction of a 200-megawatt gas-fired power plant, which commenced operations in 2010. This development was a milestone for Ghana, addressing the severe power shortages that had hindered the country’s growth.

Building on the success of its initial phase, Asogli Power embarked on a second phase, boosting the plant's capacity to 560 megawatts by 2016. This expansion positioned the plant as one of the largest independent power producers in Ghana, playing a crucial role in stabilizing the country's electricity supply and meeting the increasing demand from both residential and industrial sectors.
