Joseph Oscar Nii Armah Mettle, known by his stage name Joe Mettle, is a celebrated Ghanaian gospel musician and songwriter.

On April 8, 2017, Joe made history by becoming the first Ghanaian gospel musician to win the prestigious Artist of the Year award at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards.

This historic win highlighted his significant impact on the music industry. Joe has garnered numerous awards both in Ghana and internationally, performing on stages worldwide alongside renowned gospel artists such as Donnie McClurkin, Nathaniel Bassey, Ntokozo Mbambo, and Michael Stuckey.

Born to Florence Addo and Emmanuel Mettle, Joe is the eldest of six children. He began his education at Richard Akwei Memorial School before moving to Kade 1&2 Primary School and later returning to Accra to attend St. Michael's and All Angels.

He continued his education at Korle Gonno 3 Junior High School and completed his Senior High School education at His Majesty Academy. An alumnus of Accra Academy, Joe also studied draftsmanship at the Modern School of Draftsmanship (MODESCO) before attending Pentecost University College in Accra.

Joe’s musical journey began as a backing vocalist for Ghanaian gospel legends like Cindy Thompson, the late Danny Nettey, and Reverend Tom Bright Davies. He later became the lead singer for the indigenous multicultural music group Soul Winners.

His breakthrough came at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) where he won Artiste of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year, and Male Vocalist Artiste of the Year, marking the first time a gospel artist had won the top award.

With a collection of over ten local and international awards, Joe has been recognized at the Africa Gospel Music Awards, Gospel Industry Awards, African Gospel Awards (UK), CCML Ghana Gospel Awards, Bass Awards, and RIGA Awards (South Africa).

He has also appeared on the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s TV show "Gospel Classics," featuring alongside Donnie McClurkin, and won the Best Male Gospel Artiste in Africa at the Trumpet Gospel Awards in South Africa.

Joe Mettle's repertoire includes nationwide hits such as "Mehia wo Yesu" (I Need You Jesus), "Nhyira" (Blessing), "Medɔ Wo," "Akokyem Nyame," "Mensuro" (I Will Not Fear), "Turning Around," and "Yesu Adi Nkunim" (Christ is Victorious). His song "Ɔnwanwani" (God of Wonders) earned him nominations at the 2017 VGMA. He has released six albums to date.

In 2007, Joe founded Joe Mettle Ministries, which organizes two major annual events: Praiz Reloaded midyear and Lovegift in December. He also manages Reverb Studios in Accra, a rehearsal and recording studio that offers musical equipment rental, music and marketing services, artist management, and consultancy.

Joe married Salomey Selassie Dzisa in a traditional ceremony in Accra on August 13, 2020, followed by an official wedding ceremony in Tema on August 15, 2020.
