Ernest "Owoahene" Nana Acheampong, widely recognized as Nana Acheampong, is a celebrated figure in Ghana's Highlife music scene.
Renowned for his role in popularizing the Burger-highlife genre in Ghana, he is famously one half of the iconic Lumba brothers duo, alongside Charles Kojo Fosu, better known as Daddy Lumba.
Nana Acheampong, often referred to as the "Champion Lover Boy," hails from Abuakwa Ashanti in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
He began his musical journey in his early years, leading his middle school band before pursuing formal education at the Kumasi Technical Institute.
His career spans over three decades, during which he has made a significant impact on the Ghanaian music industry.
In the 1980s, Nana Acheampong left Ghana for Germany, where he played with the Talking Drum band before forming his own band in 1987.
Two years later, in 1989, he collaborated with Daddy Lumba to release their first and only album, Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu, which became a defining moment in the Burger-highlife genre.
Despite the success of the album, the duo eventually parted ways to embark on solo careers.
Acheampong has since established himself as a solo artist and a producer, owning the Owoahene Studio in Suame, Kumasi, where he continues to create music.
As the Executive Producer for Owoahene Music, he has produced several hit songs, including "Abu Aka Mesim," "Casanova," "Kata W'ani Te," "Deobrenodi," "Nipa," "Se Eye Wode," "Obibini Mu Obibini," "Ever Ready," "Odo Yarea," "Meko Odo Nkyen," "I Go Die 4 U," "Mansusu Saa," "Ako Me Square," "My Rub A Dub Girl," "Brebre Obaahemaa," and "Wo Wone Hwan." His album Naanka ɛbɛyɛ dɛn holds the record for album sales in Ghana, solidifying his legacy as a Highlife music legend.
Beyond his professional achievements, Nana Acheampong is also known for his role as a father. He is the proud father of Gyakie, a rising star in the Ghanaian afrobeat and afro music scene, continuing the family's musical legacy into the next generation.
