Yaw Osei Adutwum: From educator to Ghana's minister of education

Yaw Osei Adutwum is a Ghanaian politician representing the Bosomtwe Constituency in the Seventh and Eighth Parliament.

He holds degrees from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of La Verne, and the University of Southern California.

In 2004, Adutwum founded New Designs Charter Schools in California and previously taught at Manual Arts High School, where he also established the International Studies Academy. He was appointed to UCLA's Capacity Building Center Advisory Board in 2021.

A member of the New Patriotic Party, Adutwum was first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. He served as Deputy Education Minister from 2017 and was promoted to Minister of Education in 2021. He initiated plans to construct 35 STEM Senior High Schools and 5 STEM universities and granted scholarships to 61 engineering and medical students in 2022.

Married with a child and a member of the Pentecost Church, Adutwum is noted for his unannounced teaching visits, policy advocacy, promotion of STEM education, and support for students' academic pursuits.
