Accra Indie Filmfest: Celebrating independent short films in Ghana

Accra Indie Filmfest

Stories and facts

Since its founding in 2019 by Evan Eghan, Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF) has grown into a cornerstone event for short films in Africa. This non-profit festival, held annually in Ghana’s capital, draws filmmakers and audiences from around the world.

Over the years, AiF has presented more than 340 projects, welcomed over 2,000 film lovers, and recognized outstanding work with 79 awards. Beyond screenings, the festival creates opportunities for up-and-coming talent through workshops, pitch sessions, masterclasses, and unique music collaborations.

The 2024 edition, themed “Africa to the World, The World to Africa,” featured 63 films from 31 countries and introduced audiences to innovations in virtual reality, animation, and interactive gaming.

The AiF FilmArt Incubator, a signature initiative, combined screenwriting and production training with a hands-on filmmaking challenge, helping participants gain practical skills and industry insight.

The upcoming seventh edition, set for August 4–9, 2025, in collaboration with Alliance Française Ghana, embraces the theme “Disruption — Visions of Tomorrow.”

This year, AiF received over 500 submissions spanning more than 100 countries, narrowing the field to 55 standout shorts.

The program includes pitch sessions connected to Clermont-Ferrand’s Talent Connexion and a creative education fair supported by Edinburgh Napier University and the Chevening Secretariat.

Through its dynamic approach and international reach, Accra Indie Filmfest continues to energize Ghana’s creative scene, offering a launchpad for fresh perspectives and fostering meaningful connections across the global film community.
