Kiddafest, formally called the Accra International Children’s Arts Festival, is a flagship occasion organised by the Ghana National Theatre.
Emerging from the Fun World cultural project in the 1990s, the festival has run annually for over twenty years, providing a lively platform for children to participate in drama, dance, music, poetry, visual arts, puppetry, and acrobatics.
Its enduring purpose has been to nurture creativity and cultural understanding among Ghana’s youth, reflecting the Ghana National Theatre’s broader aim of cultivating future artists and audiences.
Past themes such as "Sustaining Our Cultural Values" (2018) and "Back to Our Roots" (2019) focus on children’s engagement with Ghanaian traditions through storytelling, dance, theatre, and artwork reflecting regional heritage.
Usually held over three days each December at Accra’s National Theatre, Kiddafest attracts attendees from schools throughout Greater Accra.
The event offers a varied programme of indoor and outdoor performances alongside workshops, face-painting stalls, food stalls, and arts and crafts markets for families to enjoy.
Over time, Kiddafest has become fundamental to the National Theatre’s educational offerings, uncovering talents who have achieved recognition nationally and beyond in singing, dancing, drama, and broadcasting.
Through performance, exhibitions, guidance, and cultural dialogue, Kiddafest remains a vital force in inspiring curiosity and safeguarding Ghana’s artistic legacies ensuring successive generations maintain a creative bond with their origins.
