The Ghana Paragliding Festival has become a cornerstone of the annual Kwahu Easter Festivities, revitalizing the previously diminishing Kwahu Easter celebration and elevating it to an international event.
The festival's origins trace back to March 2003, when the late Mr. Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, then Minister of Tourism and Modernization of Accra, visited the Kwahu Ridge during his familiarization tour and encountered Walter Neser, the festival’s organizer.
In 2005, the inaugural Ghana Paragliding Festival was launched by Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama.
Later in 2010, under the leadership of Julius Debrah, Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, and in collaboration with Adom FM, it was renamed the Kwahu Easter Festival.
The festival now features a variety of activities such as hiking Odweanoma Mountain, walk races, telescope viewing at Mt. Odweanoma Observatory, musical performances, album launches, street jams, and a durbar of chiefs and locals.
It attracts both domestic and international participants for four days of thrilling aerial displays and cultural festivities.
Over the years, tandem paraglider pilots from around the globe have gathered to offer flights to local spectators and visitors.
Solo pilots are also welcome to enjoy consistent flying conditions characterized by mild thermals that provide ample airtime for both novice and experienced pilots.
The event has transformed Kwahu into a hub for tourism and adventure sports during Easter celebrations.
