SIC Insurance Company: A pillar of Ghana’s insurance industry since 1955

Stories and facts

The State Insurance Company (SIC) Insurance Company has a long-standing history in Ghana's financial and insurance sectors.

Established in 1955 as a subsidiary of the state-owned Ghana Commercial Bank, SIC initially provided insurance services primarily to state enterprises and government projects. Over the years, it expanded to serve individual and commercial clients, becoming a key player in Ghana’s insurance industry.

Incorporated as a public corporation in 1962 under the Statutory Corporations Act, SIC became the sole insurer of government assets in 1965, playing a crucial role in promoting insurance awareness among Ghanaians.

The company underwent significant restructuring and modernization efforts in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, including the introduction of new products, services, and advanced technology to enhance customer service.

SIC's listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange in 2007 marked a significant milestone, reflecting its transition from a state-owned entity to a publicly traded company.

Today, SIC Insurance Company remains one of Ghana's leading insurance providers, offering a wide range of insurance products and continuing to contribute to economic growth and development while maintaining a strong focus on innovation and customer satisfaction.
