Why passengers must remove footwear for screening at Kotoka Airport

Stories and facts

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has implemented a new security measure, requiring passengers to remove their shoes at screening checkpoints in all airports. This directive, effective immediately, is in line with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority's (GCAA) responsibility to enforce security measures for air transport safety.

According to GACL, the decision is based on Section 17.4.5(1) of the Ghana Civil Aviation (Aviation Security) Directives, which prohibits individuals from entering sterile or security-restricted areas without undergoing screening of their person or belongings.

The company has urged the public to comply with the new requirement to facilitate smooth airport operations nationwide.

The GACL respectfully requests the collaboration of the public to ensure a smooth facilitation process at all airports.
