The Adekyem Festival is a cultural celebration observed by the people of Bechem in the Tano South District of Ghana.
It takes place every two years, usually in November or December, although the exact date may change from year to year.
The name “Adekyem” comes from the Akan language and translates to “a place where items or gifts are distributed or shared,” reflecting Bechem’s historical significance as a distribution center, according to the National Commission on Culture.
The festival is held in Bechem, located in the Tano South District of the Ahafo Region.
It is organized by the Bechem Traditional Council in collaboration with the Tano South District Assembly.
Beyond its cultural significance, the festival also serves a developmental purpose, with a strong emphasis on promoting education.
The historical roots of the festival are deeply tied to the town’s role in the past as a hub for distributing goods and gifts, a legacy that continues to be honoured through the celebration of Adekyem.
