Kwame Nkrumah was a central figure in Ghana's independence movement and became the first Prime Minister and President of the country.
His leadership and vision were instrumental in Ghana becoming the first African nation to gain independence from colonial rule on March 6, 1957.
Influenced by Pan-Africanism and anti-colonial ideals during his education abroad, Nkrumah returned to the Gold Coast to lead the nationalist struggle.
He founded the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and mobilized mass support through campaigns like "Positive Action."
Under his leadership, Ghana transitioned to self-rule and independence, with Nkrumah championing African unity and socialism.
Despite his eventual overthrow in 1966, his legacy as a pioneer of African liberation and Pan-Africanism endures.
