Antoine Serlom Semenyo is a name that has steadily risen in football circles, capturing the hearts of fans with his skill, versatility, and determination.
Born on January 7, 2000, Semenyo has made a significant impact, representing Premier League club AFC Bournemouth and the Ghana national team. Whether as a striker, winger, or second striker, his ability to adapt and excel on the field has set him apart.
Semenyo’s football journey is one of hard work and perseverance. Like many aspiring players, he started small, attending trials at Crystal Palace before finally finding a home at Bristol City in 2017.
His potential was undeniable during his time at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College’s football academy, which led to his professional debut on the final day of the 2017–18 season against Sheffield United. It was the beginning of a promising career.
His early years at Bristol City were filled with moments of growth and learning. While there were highs, such as his first goal for the club in 2020 and a Player of the Month award in January 2022, there were also challenges, including a red card incident in 2019.
But through it all, Semenyo’s resilience shone, culminating in his best season in 2021–22, where he scored eight goals and provided 12 assists in 32 matches.
Loan spells at Bath City, Newport County, and Sunderland helped shape him into the player he is today. At Bath City, he got his first taste of consistent men’s football and quickly became a fan favorite.
His time at Newport County saw him scoring vital goals, while Sunderland offered another stage to refine his skills. Each step in his journey added to his experience and confidence.
In January 2023, Semenyo’s career reached new heights when AFC Bournemouth signed him in a £10 million deal. It didn’t take long for him to make an impact, scoring his first Premier League goal in April that year during a 4–1 victory over Leeds.
By July 2024, the club recognized his value by extending his contract until 2029, solidifying his place in the team’s future.
Internationally, Semenyo’s decision to represent Ghana, the country of his heritage, has been a source of pride for both him and his fans.
He made his debut for the Black Stars in June 2022 in a dominant 3–0 win against Madagascar. Later that year, he was part of Ghana’s squad at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, a dream for any footballer.
Football runs in Antoine’s blood. His father, Larry Semenyo, once played in Ghana’s Premier League, and his younger brother, Jai, is forging his path as a professional player for Eastleigh in the National League.
