Asamoah Gyan joins political party's sports manifesto sub-committee

Stories and facts

Former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has been appointed to the Manifesto Committee of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Gyan, renowned as Ghana's all-time leading goal scorer, has accepted the role of leading the "Youth and Sports" manifesto sub-committee.

He joins twenty-three other members tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the party’s 2016 and 2020 manifestos to develop a pragmatic manifesto for 2024.

The committee aims to craft a forward-looking and practical manifesto that addresses the needs of the Ghanaian population by engaging various stakeholders and seeking input from sector ministers serving as advisors.

Gyan’s recent cryptic message on his X (formerly Twitter) page, expressing the need for sports legends to unite and make a positive impact on the youth in sports, aligns with his new appointment.

In his role, Gyan is expected to actively communicate the sports component of Dr. Bawumia's manifesto upon completion.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, has appointed Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu as the Chairman of the Committee, with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah serving as the Vice-Chairman. Evron Hughes will act as the Secretary, while Prof. Kwaku Appiah Adu and Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah will coordinate the Manifesto Committee.
