Bernard George Kobena Brako, known professionally as Ben Brako, is celebrated as a Ghanaian highlife artiste.
He gained prominence in the mid to late 1980s with the release of his debut solo studio album Baya in 1987, which he both wrote and produced.
Brako was born in Accra but grew up in his mother’s hometown of Cape Coast, where he was raised alongside his seven siblings.
From a young age, he developed a passion for music and entertainment while also remaining committed to his formal education.
His love for performance began early, and by 1960 he was already entertaining live audiences, a journey he proudly recalls as one that has continued throughout his life.
He pursued his secondary education at St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast before advancing to the University of Ghana, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics.
His academic pursuits later took him abroad to the University of East London, where in 1994 he obtained a BA (Hons) in Media Communication Studies.
Over the years, Brako has made significant contributions to Ghana’s music scene. One of his notable achievements came with his single “Shame and Scandal,” which climbed to the top of the Global Music Charts, securing the number one spot.
His music remains a reflection of his creativity and a strong influence on the growth of highlife, inspiring both listeners and younger musicians.
