Kwabena Boateng: From legal expertise to political leadership

Stories and facts

Kwabena Boateng, a legal professional with expertise in Corporate Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution, made a transition into politics as an active member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

After the passing of the incumbent MP, Boateng secured victory in the parliamentary primary for the Ejisu Constituency, garnering support from 1,081 delegates, showcasing his popularity within the party. With a mandate from his party, Boateng aims to represent and serve his constituency, marking a significant shift from his legal career to political leadership. In the subsequent Ejisu by-election, Boateng emerged victorious with 55.8% of the vote, defeating his main rival, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an Independent Candidate and former NPP MP, who received 43.3% of the vote.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah. However, allegations of vote buying against Boateng's campaign surfaced, leading to the removal of two Electoral Commission staff members shown in a viral video allegedly receiving bribes.
