Meet Kofi Akpaloo, founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG)

Stories and facts

Renowned Ghanaian political analyst Kofi Akpaloo was born in 1970 in Anyako, a town situated in Ghana's Volta Region.

Raised in a large family, Akpaloo's educational journey began in several schools, including New Nation and Asomaso Presby in Kumasi, before he continued his studies at Kumasi Academy. His strong academic foundation laid the groundwork for his future career and ambitions.

Married to Mrs. Delvine Akpaloo, with whom he has six children, Akpaloo balances his professional and personal life with a sense of commitment to both his family and his country.

His academic credentials include an MBA in Strategic Management, a Master of Arts in Accounting from South Bank University, and an ACCA qualification in Accounting from Emile Woolf College in England. These qualifications have cemented his reputation as a skilled financial expert and accountant.

Akpaloo’s professional career began in the financial sector. From February 2002 to October 2005, he served as the Financial Controller for Presdel Group, where he gained valuable experience in managing finances.

Following this, he owned and operated Doveson Lovell Company from October 2005 to January 2007. His career further expanded when he became the Financial Reporting Accountant for Northern Trust Corporation, further establishing his expertise in financial management and reporting.

However, Akpaloo's ambitions extended beyond the financial world. In 2004, he made his foray into politics, running as an independent candidate for the Manhyia Constituency.

Despite his efforts, he was not successful in securing a seat. Undeterred by this initial setback, Akpaloo founded the Independent People’s Party (IPP) in 2011. He led the IPP in the 2012 elections, but once again faced defeat.

In 2016, Akpaloo sought to make a bigger impact by running for the presidency. However, he was disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) due to issues with his nomination forms.

Not one to be easily discouraged, Akpaloo pressed forward and, in 2017, established the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG). Now, as the flag bearer for the LPG, he is gearing up for the 2024 general elections, hopeful that his party’s message of change and progress will resonate with the Ghanaian electorate.

Throughout his career, Kofi Akpaloo has demonstrated resilience, a strong commitment to service, and an unwavering dedication to achieving his political goals.

As he continues to grow as a leader, he remains focused on the future, with the 2024 elections as his next major milestone.
