Reggie Rockstone, born Reginald Yaw Asante Ossei, is a Ghanaian rapper widely recognized as the “Godfather of Hiplife.” Though born in the United Kingdom on April 11, 1964, he spent his early years in Kumasi and Accra.
Since pioneering the Hiplife movement in 1994, he has remained based in Ghana, significantly shaping the country’s music scene.
He is married to Dr. Zilla Limann, daughter of Ghana’s former president Hilla Limann. The couple has been together since 2001 and have three children.
Rockstone played a central role in the development of Hiplife, a unique African genre that blends hip hop beats with Ghanaian highlife rhythms and local languages.
He raps primarily in Asante Twi and English, using his music to reflect urban life and social realities in Ghana. His breakthrough album Makaa! Maka! released in 1997, featured hits like “Sweetie Sweetie,” “Tsoo Boi,” “Nightlife in Accra,” and “Agoo.”
Outside of entertainment, Rockstone ventured into the food business with “Rockz Waakye,” a food distribution company that packages the popular Ghanaian dish waakye in glass jars for delivery to hotels.
In addition to his business and artistic pursuits, he is set to make a guest appearance in an MMA fight against William Adom at the Bukom Boxing Arena on April 2, 2025.
Throughout his career, Reggie Rockstone has recorded several albums under his own Kassa Records label and the MixerPot label. His discography includes Makaa Maka (I Said It Because I Said It) in 1997, Me Na Me Kae (I Was The One Who Said It) in 1999, Me Ka (I Will Say) in 2000, Last Show in 2004, and Reggiestration in 2010.
His legacy lives on, shaping the sound of Hiplife and inspiring a new generation of young Ghanaians every day.
