Moliy’s Musical Journey: From Accra to the global stage

Stories and facts

Moliy, whose real name is Molly Ama Montgomery, was born in Accra, Ghana, and she’s quickly becoming a force in the music world with a sound that’s all her own.

She spent her childhood between Accra and Florida, soaking up influences from all kinds of music, from Ghanaian highlife to global icons like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. These different sounds helped shape her unique style, a seamless mix of Afrobeats, alté, R&B, and dancehall.

Her music captures both sides of her life, blending bold rhythms with soft, dreamy vocals that feel deeply personal yet universally appealing.

Moliy’s journey into music began during a difficult time in her life when she returned to Ghana and decided to fully embrace her passion. She made her debut with the Wondergirl EP in 2020, winning hearts with her empowering lyrics and fresh voice.

Her big break came when she was featured on Amaarae’s “Sad Girlz Luv Money (Remix),” which became a global sensation. She continued to grow with her 2022 EP Honey Doom, where she shared more of her heart and soul.

In December 2024, Moliy teamed up with Jamaican producer Silent Addy for “Shake It to the Max (Fly).” The remix, featuring Shenseea and Skillibeng, dropped in February 2025 and quickly blew up on TikTok, even reaching number one on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.

With every song, Moliy is proving that she’s not just making music; she’s creating a movement.
