Dr. Ransford Annetey Abbey, affectionately known as Randy Abbey OV, GM, is a well-known figure in Ghanaian media, sports, and public service. For over two decades, he has been a household name as the host of Metro TV’s flagship morning show, Good Morning Ghana.
Beyond the screen, he plays a significant role in Ghanaian football as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association and serves as the president of Kpando Hearts of Lions Football Club.
Randy’s journey began at Accra Academy, where he received his secondary education. His thirst for knowledge led him to the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where he earned a certificate in Human Resource Management and Public Administration.
He also pursued an advanced certificate in Public Relations, Advertising, and Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
His academic achievements include an MBA in General Management from the Australian Institute of Business and a doctorate from the SBS Swiss Business School in Zürich, Switzerland.
His career in media started in 2002 when he became the host of Good Morning Ghana, a role that has made him one of the most trusted voices in Ghanaian broadcasting.
Randy’s expertise isn’t confined to media, as he took on the role of spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association in 2006, a position he held for eight years.
His love for football saw him acquiring a majority stake in the Kpando Hearts of Lions Football Club in 2014, where he has been leading the team as president.
In 2019, Randy was elected to the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, a testament to his leadership and vision for the sport. Over the years, he has chaired key committees, including the Referees Appointment Committee and the Black Meteors Management Committee.
As Chairman of the Black Satellites Management Committee, his leadership contributed to their victory in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. His commitment to football development has earned him widespread respect both locally and internationally.
Randy’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. In 2006, he was honored with the Order of the Volta for his impact on media growth in Ghana. That same year, he received a Grand Medal for his role in Ghana’s qualification and performance at the FIFA World Cup in Germany.
In 2025, his dedication to public service was further recognized when President John Dramani Mahama appointed him as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), pending consultations with the relevant bodies.
Away from his professional commitments, Randy is a devoted family man. He is married and the proud father of four children, two sons and two daughters.
