Dr. Ransford Annetey Abbey, affectionately known as Randy Abbey OV, GM, is a well-known figure in Ghanaian media, sports, and public service. For over two decades, he has been a household name as the host of Metro TV’s flagship morning show, Good Morning Ghana.

Beyond the screen, he plays a significant role in Ghanaian football as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association and serves as the president of Kpando Hearts of Lions Football Club.

Randy’s journey began at Accra Academy, where he received his secondary education. His thirst for knowledge led him to the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where he earned a certificate in Human Resource Management and Public Administration.

He also pursued an advanced certificate in Public Relations, Advertising, and Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

His academic achievements include an MBA in General Management from the Australian Institute of Business and a doctorate from the SBS Swiss Business School in Zürich, Switzerland.

His career in media started in 2002 when he became the host of Good Morning Ghana, a role that has made him one of the most trusted voices in Ghanaian broadcasting.

Randy’s expertise isn’t confined to media, as he took on the role of spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association in 2006, a position he held for eight years.

His love for football saw him acquiring a majority stake in the Kpando Hearts of Lions Football Club in 2014, where he has been leading the team as president.

In 2019, Randy Abbey's passion and dedication to Ghanaian football earned him a seat on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.

This was a clear reflection of the trust placed in his leadership and vision for the sport. Over the years, he has taken on important responsibilities, leading several key committees such as the Referees Appointment Committee and the Black Meteors Management Committee. Through these roles, he has brought integrity and structure to football governance.

As Chairman of the Black Satellites Management Committee, Randy played a vital role in guiding the team to victory at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

His hands-on leadership and strong belief in nurturing young talent were central to that success. His consistent efforts to develop football in Ghana have earned him widespread respect both nationally and internationally.

Randy's influence extends well beyond the pitch. In 2006, he was honored with the Order of the Volta in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the growth of Ghana's media landscape.

That same year, he received a Grand Medal for his significant role in helping Ghana qualify for and compete in the FIFA World Cup held in Germany, a proud milestone in the nation's sporting history.

In January 2025, his dedication to public service was acknowledged once again when President John Dramani Mahama appointed him as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board. This appointment was made pending formal consultations with the relevant stakeholders.

Outside his professional life, Randy finds fulfillment in his role as a family man. He is happily married and the proud father of four children, two sons and two daughters, who bring balance and joy to his life.
