Founding the APC
The APC was born out of the vision of Dr. Hassan Ayariga, a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics. Dr. Ayariga had previously vied for the presidential candidacy within the PNC but lost to Edward Mahama in the run-up to the December 2016 general elections. This setback inspired him to establish a new political party that would champion his unique vision for Ghana's future. The APC was officially formed in 2016 and swiftly became a notable player in the country's political arena, with a primary focus on job creation and economic growth as its core campaign themes.
Flagbearer
Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the founder of the APC and its flagbearer in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, is a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics. He previously contested as the presidential candidate for the PNC in 2012 but later decided to establish the APC to pursue his political ambitions and visions for the nation.
Logos and colours
Every political party is distinct in its symbolism and branding, and the APC is no exception. As for its colours, the APC proudly displays green and cream, reflecting its dedication to growth, renewal, and unity.
Election History
Parliamentary Elections
The APC has contested in Ghana's parliamentary elections, albeit with limited success. In the 2016 elections, the party garnered 2,527 votes, securing no parliamentary seats. They finished in the 7th position and remained extra-parliamentary. In the 2020 elections, the party's performance saw a decline, with 1,214 votes and no seats, placing them in the 11th position, once again extra-parliamentary.
Presidential Elections
The APC's presidential aspirations have been met with challenges. In the 2016 general election, Dr Hassan Ayariga, the party's flagbearer, was disqualified from running, marking a setback for the nascent party. In the 2020 presidential election, despite being on the ballot, the APC secured only 0.05% of the votes, positioning them in the 8th place out of 12 candidates.
