Kpando Senior High School, formerly known as Kpando Secondary School, is a co-educational institution in the Kpando Municipal District of the Volta Region, Ghana.
It is one of three secondary schools in the Kpando township and is considered the best in both the Kpando Municipality and the Volta Region, holding a category "A" status due to its exceptional performance in recent WAEC examinations.
KPASEC, as it is popularly known, offers all senior high school courses approved by the Ghana Education Service. The school boasts facilities that enhance teaching and learning, including well-furnished classroom blocks, an art studio, a science laboratory, a well-stocked library, and qualified staff. In 2016, KPASEC ranked 38th in the WAEC results rankings.
Founded on January 26, 1953, as a non-denominational secondary school, KPASEC began with nine students at the Kpando Community Centre, initially operating as a day school. By 1954, enrollment had increased to 66 students, including two female students, and four staff members.
The first headmaster was Mr. N.J.C Bowron, and the first school building, completed in 1955, was a temporary structure with asbestos sheet walls, costing £2,263. Mrs. M.M.S Tetteh became the first female graduate teacher to join the staff in 1958.
In 1967, under headmaster Mr. Purser, the school was granted full boarding status by the Ministry of Education and renamed Kpando Secondary School. As of 2023, the headmaster is Mr. Charles Evans Apreku.
KPASEC achieved a significant milestone on June 29, 2019, by becoming the first senior high school from the Volta Region to reach the quarter-finals of the National Science & Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), defeating Kumasi High School and Aburi Girls' SHS in the One-Eighth contest.
Continuing its legacy of excellence, on July 10, 2024, KPASEC won the NSMQ contest against Abutia SHS and Dzodze-Penyi SHS with a remarkable 75 points, securing a spot in the national championship.
