The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Ghana is the primary regulator of the securities industry in the country, established under the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929).

Its mission is to regulate, innovate, and promote the development of an efficient, fair, and transparent securities market while protecting investors and maintaining market integrity.

The SEC advises the Minister of Finance on securities-related matters, monitors market activities to ensure fairness, and oversees entities such as securities exchanges, fund managers, investment advisers, and credit rating agencies.

The SEC operates through specialized departments, including Broker-Dealers and Advisors, Funds Management, Legal and Enforcement, Policy Research and IT, and Risk Management. It ensures compliance through licensing, surveillance, and inspections.

Additionally, its Communications Unit focuses on market education and reputation management to position SEC as a leading regulator in Africa.

The institution’s vision is to become a top-tier securities market regulator on the continent.
