The Ghana National Film Authority (NFA), established on December 16, 2016, operates under the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935) to regulate, promote, and support Ghana’s film industry.

Headquartered behind the Gold Coast Restaurant in Accra, the NFA classifies films to align with national standards, advocates for industry interests, and implements policies to strengthen Ghanaian cinema.

It fosters growth through funding, training, workshops, and international partnerships while organizing events like Ghana Cinema Week (held annually in December) and the Africa Cinema Summit to boost collaboration across the continent.

The authority also spearheaded the rebranding of Ghana’s film industry as “Black Star Films” to emphasize cultural heritage.

Governed by a presidential-appointed board, the NFA includes representatives from the Copyright Office, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ministry of Communications, and film industry organizations.
