Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, died peacefully on Saturday, August 18, 2018, in Bern, Switzerland, after a short illness.

He was 80 years old. His wife, Nane, and their children were by his side during his final days.Annan’s death was met with an outpouring of grief and tributes from around the world.

The United Nations, international organizations, and numerous world leaders mourned his passing, recognizing him as a global statesman, a champion for peace, and a proud son of Ghana who dedicated his life to the pursuit of a fairer and more peaceful world.
