In 2024, Ghana bade farewell to several beloved figures from various fields, leaving a deep void in the hearts of many.

One of the most heartbreaking losses was that of Bright Owusu, affectionately known as C Confion, a rising star in the comedy industry. A member of Dr. Likee’s troupe, C Confion passed away on December 20 after battling a severe illness. His untimely death left colleagues and fans devastated.

John Kumah, the 45-year-old Member of Parliament for Ejisu and former Deputy Finance Minister, also passed away in March after a prolonged illness. Sources confirmed that he died in Germany, where he had been receiving medical care.

Another significant loss was that of Akua Donkor, founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), who died on October 28 at Ridge Hospital in Accra. Known for her advocacy for farmers and women’s rights, Donkor's passing left a lasting impact on Ghanaian politics.

In the entertainment world, the death of Yoghurt (Osman Idris), a prominent figure from the Junka Town film series, shocked the nation. He died on June 11 at the Great Faith Family Clinic.

The gospel music community also mourned the death of Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, known as KODA, on April 21. His influence on the genre and dedicated fanbase solidified his legacy.

Actress Mercy Little Smith, famed for her role as “Benyiwaa” in Efiewura, passed away on December 18, 2024, leaving a gap in the entertainment industry.

Ghana’s sporting community also experienced loss with the death of legendary boxer Ike Quartey on November 2. At the age of 54, Quartey was remembered as a national hero, having elevated the sport in Ghana.

Tragically, Ghanaian footballer Hans Kwofie lost his life in a car accident on June 21.

These individuals, whether in comedy, politics, music, sports, or film, made incredible marks on Ghana's culture and national spirit, and their passing has been deeply felt across the nation.
