Angela Ankomaah Tabiri: Quantum algebra researcher and advocate for women in STEM

Stories and facts

Angela Ankomaah Tabiri, born in 1990 in Accra, Ghana, graduated from Anum Memorial School and Accra’s Girls Senior High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and economics from the University of Ghana.

She later obtained a Master’s degree from AIMS and a postgraduate diploma from ICTP, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Glasgow in 2019, where she focused on Quantum Group Actions.

As an AIMS-Google AI Postdoctoral Fellow at AIMS-Ghana in 2019, Tabiri researched noncommutative algebra and quantum groups while teaching mathematics. She founded Femafricmaths to promote African women in mathematics and organized Ghana's first Science Slam in 2019.

Tabiri has presented at international events, served on the board of Kente Connect, and continues to inspire youth through teaching and community work, advocating for women in STEM and supporting education in her community.

Angela Tabiri, celebrated as the "Maths Queen," has been awarded the title of World's Most Interesting Mathematician. She earned this distinction in The Big Internet Math-Off, a renowned competition held in the United States from July 1 to July 24.
