Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey Junior, a Ghanaian politician with roots in Osu, Greater Accra, has emerged as the flag bearer of the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) for the upcoming elections.
Though he currently resides in the United Kingdom, his Ghanaian heritage and commitment to the country’s future remain central to his mission.
Born in the 1970s, Dr. Lartey is the son of the late Daniel Lartey, who was the GCPP's presidential candidate in both the 2000 and 2004 elections. His father, a distinguished former publisher, labor unionist, and politician, founded the GCPP with a vision for a prosperous Ghana.
Tragically, the senior Lartey did not achieve his goal of winning the presidency. Now, his son, Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey Junior, has been entrusted with the task of realizing his late father’s aspirations for the party and the nation.
Dr. Lartey Junior holds a PhD in Finance from FN Williams in England, qualifying him as a finance engineer. His extensive academic background, combined with his passion for Ghana’s development, positions him as a capable leader ready to bring a fresh perspective to the country’s political landscape.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, during the GCPP’s national delegates conference in Accra, Dr. Lartey was officially confirmed as the party's flag bearer. The announcement was made by Benjamin Banor-Bioh, the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), who praised Dr. Lartey’s qualifications and leadership potential.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Lartey Junior acknowledged the immense responsibility placed upon him. He expressed his deep respect for the party’s executives and the legacy of his late father, promising to carry forward the vision of the GCPP with integrity and dedication.
He vowed not to disappoint the party leadership or the people of Ghana, stressing his commitment to achieving the goals that his father was unable to fulfill in previous elections.
