Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, known by her stage name Ebony Reigns, was a prominent Ghanaian dancehall and Afrobeats artist. Born on February 16, 1994, and tragically passing away on February 8, 2018.
Ebony made a significant impact on the music scene with her chart-topping hits "Poison" and "Kupe". Discovered by Bullet from the duo Ruff n Smooth, Ebony achieved a historic milestone as the first Ghanaian female musician to win the Artiste of the Year Award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Affectionately called Nana Heemaa (Oheema) by her close relatives, Ebony was born in Dansoman, a suburb of Accra, to parents Nana Poku Kwarteng and Beatrice Oppong Marthin. Although she grew up in Accra's urban areas, her family roots traced back to the Brong Ahafo region.
She began her education at Seven Great Princess Academy in Dansoman and later attended Methodist Girls High School in Mamfe, located in the Akuapim North District of the Eastern Region. However, Ebony decided to leave high school to fully commit to her burgeoning music career.
Ebony's musical journey took a significant turn when she was discovered by musician and entrepreneur Bullet, leading to her signing with his label, RuffTown Records.
Her debut single, "Dancefloor," released in December 2015, quickly became a radio sensation and earned her a nomination in the "unsung" category at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards. Following this, in March 2016, Ebony released "Kupe," a song that solidified her place in the Ghanaian music industry.
Under the management of RuffTown Records and Midas Touch Inc., Ebony continued to produce hits such as "Poison," "Sponsor," and "Hustle," all of which received extensive airplay and topped music charts in Ghana. Among her many successful tracks, "Maame Hw3" stood out for its powerful message addressing domestic violence, further emphasized by its compelling music video.
