George Akuffo Dampare’s rise to become the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Ghana Police Service is a remarkable story of dedication, leadership, and commitment to public service.

Appointed as acting IGP by President Nana Akufo-Addo on July 21, 2021, he officially assumed the role on August 1, 2021, becoming the youngest person to hold the position since the Fourth Republic’s inception.

Before his law enforcement career, Dampare excelled academically, passing the GCE exams and completing his ACCA at UPSA by age 25. He later earned two Master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in Finance and Management from King’s College London.

Dampare joined the Ghana Police Service in 1990 at age 20 and quickly distinguished himself, becoming the Best Recruit and later the Best Cadet at the Ghana Police Academy.

His career was marked by rapid advancement through key positions, culminating in his promotion to Commissioner of Police in 2014.
