John Evans Kwadwo Bosompem, known professionally as Santo or Bob Santo, was a celebrated Ghanaian comedian and actor born in 1940.
Renowned for his vibrant personality and ability to connect with audiences, Santo became a household name through his performances in Akan-language films.
His dynamic partnership with longtime friend and collaborator, Abusapanyin Judas, contributed significantly to his popularity in Ghanaian entertainment.
In the early 2000s, Santo and Judas captivated audiences through their work in movie production, acting, and live theater.
Their collaboration had begun earlier, with Santo taking the lead as head of the Omintiminim Concert Party in 1995. Together, they seamlessly transitioned into film acting, bringing their comedic brilliance to the screen.
Santo featured in numerous productions during his career. His filmography includes titles such as 419, Abawa Mary, Banker to Banker, Double Sense, Asem, Efiewura, Key Soap Concert Party, Landlord, Marijata (parts 1, 2, and 3), Okukuseku (parts 1, 2, and 3), Sika, That Day, Hard Times, Lucifer, and Death.
His performances left an indelible mark on Ghanaian cinema, particularly in the Akan-speaking community.
Tragically, Santo passed away on 30 May 2002 at the age of 62 after suffering from jaundice.
Santo left behind a rich legacy in Ghanaian entertainment, as well as two wives and three children who survived him. His contribution to comedy and film continues to be remembered and celebrated by fans across the country.
