Okyeame Kwame, born Kwame Nsiah-Apau, is a celebrated Ghanaian musician, songwriter, creative director, fashion icon and development activist. Nicknamed the “Rap Doctor”, his commitment to both music and social causes has earned him the title of an “artivist”.
Coming from a musically inclined family with siblings Flowking Stone and Kunta Kinte who form the rap duo Bradez, Kwame developed a passion for rap during his days at Anglican Senior High School in Kumasi.
Though he faced learning difficulties due to dyslexia, he has used his experience to advocate for dyslexia awareness and inclusion in Ghana’s educational curriculum.
He studied Akan and Sociology at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology under the mentorship of music scholar Agya Koo Nimo and later completed a master’s degree in Strategic Marketing at the University of Ghana. He recently obtained a second master’s degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Kwame rose to fame in the late 1990s as part of the hiplife group Akyeame and later went solo under his own label, One Mic Entertainment, now OK Music.
Known for his lyrical prowess in the Twi language and versatility across genres, he has collaborated with numerous Ghanaian music legends and won multiple awards, including the coveted Ghana Music Awards Artist of the Year in 2009.
His music, infused with social consciousness, has been studied in universities and used as a tool for education and cultural promotion.
Beyond music, Okyeame Kwame is a successful entrepreneur and author. He operates businesses in fashion, beauty, publishing and tourism, including his “Love Equation” boxer shorts line and OK World Travel and Tour.
He co-authored relationship guidebooks with his wife Annica and collaborates with Adansi Travel to promote domestic and diaspora tourism.
A widely respected brand ambassador, he has represented major corporations and national campaigns including MTN, GT Bank, Coca-Cola, TVET, Climate Clock and the African Union’s “My African Union, My Voice”.
His philanthropic work, chiefly through the Okyeame Kwame Foundation, focuses on hepatitis B awareness, screening and vaccination, having reached thousands across Ghana.
He also champions climate change awareness in schools, literacy projects and support for vulnerable communities.
Okyeame Kwame remains a powerful influence in Ghanaian culture and entertainment, continuously using his music, business ventures and advocacy to uplift society.
