Ahead of the December 7, 2024, General Elections, the Ghana Police Service has emphatically pledged to ensure a secure and peaceful electoral process.
This commitment follows the disturbing violence witnessed during the 2020 general election, which led to tragic fatalities, including the deaths of three minors, and injuries sustained by 15 voters, primarily from gunshots.
Numerous incidents of violence were reported in various locations, including Tamale, Techiman, Odorkor, Ablekuma, and Savelugu. In the aftermath of the 2020 election, the Ghana Police Service conducted a thorough review of its strategies and approaches, recognizing critical lessons learned from the experience.
The service's resolute assurance underscores its dedication to preventing a recurrence of violence and upholding the integrity of the electoral process. With comprehensive measures in place, the Ghana Police Service is steadfast in its commitment to facilitating a free and fair election for all citizens.
