Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama has been awarded the inaugural Sam Gilliam Award by the Dia Art Foundation and the Sam Gilliam Foundation, recognizing his significant contributions to the art world.
Mahama, known for his sculptural, textile, and installation work, will receive a $75,000 grant and will be featured in a public program at Dia later this year. The award, presented annually through 2033, acknowledges Mahama's ambitious and community-driven project often involvee collaboration with artisans in Ghana.
