Joe Lartey, a prominent figure in sports journalism, was born in Accra, Ghana, in 1927.
His education began at Accra Royal School and continued at Government Senior Boys School, Kinbu. Lartey's diverse career included roles in the British Royal Navy, Accra Town Council, and Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), where he gained renown for his commentary alongside Festus Addae.
He later worked at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and remained active in political movements like the People's Movement for Freedom and Justice (PMFJ). Lartey's contributions were honored with awards such as "A Life in Sports" by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), and he served as the first president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).
His passing in 2024 marked the end of an era in Ghanaian sports broadcasting.
