Lydia Seyram Alhassan, born on January 1, 1970, is a prominent politician who is known for her unwavering commitment to public service and her impressive achievements as a Member of Parliament.

She represents the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Beyond her political career, she has a rich background in business and healthcare.

Lydia Seyram Alhassan's academic journey laid the foundation for her successful career. She earned an MBA in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School, Legon. Her pursuit of knowledge didn't stop there; she also holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Ghana.

Before entering the world of politics, Lydia Alhassan was actively involved in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. She served as the Vice Chairperson of the Pharmaceutical Importers and Wholesalers Association of Ghana and was an executive member of the Chamber of Pharmacy Ghana. Her involvement in these associations showcased her dedication to improving healthcare access and services in the country.

In addition to her association roles, Lydia is the owner of Lymens Medical Supplies Limited, a wholesale pharmaceutical company in Ghana. What's truly remarkable is that she established this company at the age of 24, displaying her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to contributing to Ghana's healthcare sector.

In January 2019, Lydia Alhassan made a significant entry into the political arena when she contested the parliamentary seat for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency. Her decision to run was driven by the desire to replace her late husband, the late politician Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko, who had previously held the seat. Her candidacy was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the electorate, and she emerged victorious in the election, securing 68.80 per cent of the valid votes cast.

Her resounding victory in the 2019 elections highlighted her appeal to the constituents and her dedication to serving her community. She demonstrated a deep understanding of the issues that mattered most to the people in her constituency.

Lydia Alhassan's political journey didn't end there. She successfully contested in the 2020 Ghanaian general election under the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, facing off against the popular Ghanaian celebrity and NDC candidate, John Dumelo. In a closely watched contest, she secured victory with 9,851 of the valid votes cast. Her ability to win against a well-known opponent is a testament to her political acumen and the trust the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon have in her leadership.

Lydia Alhassan's personal life is marked by her marriage to the late politician Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko, which ended with his untimely death in 2018. This personal loss further fueled her determination to carry on his legacy and continue serving the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
