Joshua Buernortey Boye-Doe, widely recognized as KalyJay, has established himself as a leading voice in social media and advocacy in Ghana.
Through his platform, he highlights the challenges faced by everyday Ghanaians, demonstrating the remarkable potential of social media to drive meaningful change.
He first gained widespread recognition in 2021 for his role in launching the #FixTheCountry campaign, a movement that began online but quickly grew into one of Ghana's most significant protests in recent years, calling for accountability and better governance from the government.
KalyJay’s journey is rooted in his education and upbringing. He attended Christland International School and Okuapeman Senior High School before furthering his education at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a focus on Public Relations.
These formative years laid the foundation for his ability to communicate effectively and connect with people, skills that have been instrumental in his success.
His career as a social media influencer took off in 2019 when his Twitter, now X, account began attracting attention. Starting with promotional posts and fundraising campaigns for the needy and sick, KalyJay quickly became a trusted voice online.
His growing influence brought him partnerships and ambassadorial deals with major brands like Fan Milk, Nivea, Jumia, Bolt, and Huawei, among others. Yet, it was his ability to connect with his audience on issues that truly mattered that set him apart.
In May 2021, KalyJay channeled this influence into action with the #FixTheCountry campaign. What began as a hashtag quickly turned into a rallying cry for Ghanaians frustrated by unemployment, economic struggles, and poor infrastructure.
The campaign culminated in a large-scale protest in Accra in August 2021, drawing people from all walks of life to demand change. For many, it was a defining moment that demonstrated the power of social media to bridge digital advocacy with real-world impact.
KalyJay didn’t stop there. Later that year, he partnered with Grammy board member Richardine Bartine to use his platform to spotlight African and international music talents.
Through Twitter Spaces, he hosted artists like Sarkodie, D-Black, Tiwa Savage, and Joeboy, bringing fans closer to their favorite stars and creating a vibrant community of music lovers.
His efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 2021, he was named Twitter Influencer of the Year at the Pulse Influencers Awards. He also received several nominations, including Brand Influencer of the Year and Online Media Personality of the Year at the National Communication Awards, as well as Advocate of Good Governance at the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards.
