Sir Kobina Arku Korsah was a pioneering Ghanaian jurist who became the first Chief Justice of Ghana (then the Gold Coast) in 1956.
Born in Saltpond, he was educated at Mfantsipim School and London University. Korsah played a significant role in the country’s political and judicial history, serving multiple terms in the Legislative Assembly and being one of the first Ghanaians appointed to the Executive Council of the Legislative Council in 1942.
He was also a founding member of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Korsah presided over notable cases, including the trial following the 1962 Kulungugu attack on President Kwame Nkrumah, and his tenure as Chief Justice ended in 1963 after he was dismissed by the Nkrumah government
