Emerging as a distinct administrative unit, the Atiwa East District Assembly was established in 2018, stemming from the Atiwa District Assembly's division. This division was part of a larger creation and upgrade of 38 new District Assemblies during that year.

Established under the legal framework of LI 2344, the Atiwa East District Assembly's headquarters is located in Anyinam. Its official commencement took place on March 15, 2018, simultaneous with the inauguration of 37 other recently established districts.

Covering a land area of 656 square kilometers, the Atiwa East District spans between longitudes O° 3? West and O° 50 East, as well as latitudes 6° 10? North and 6° 30? South.

The geographical boundaries of the district are demarcated by Kwahu West Municipal and Kwahu South District to the north, Fanteakwa South District to the northeast, Abuakwa South Municipal to the southeast, Kwaebibirem Municipal to the south, and Birim North District to the west.

Based on the 2021 projections by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), the anticipated total population for that year in the Atiwa East District was 61,219 individuals. This population is composed of 31,288 males and 29,931 females, with a calculated annual population growth rate of 2.1%.
