Bia East District - Adabokrom

Stories and facts

The district shares its boundaries with the Dormaa West District Assembly to the north, Asunafo North to the northeast, La Cote d'Ivoire to the west, and Bia West District to the southwest.

Positioned 420 km northwest of Sekondi-Takoradi (the Regional Capital) and 250 km from Kumasi, the nearest commercial center, the district's capital, Adabokrom, encompasses an area of 874.1 sq km. This region boasts a harmonious blend of human and natural resources, ranging from a diverse workforce and fertile soil to an inviting climate, lush rainforests, and a variety of timber species, crops, and livestock. Collectively, these contribute to enhancing the quality of life for residents.

As of the 2021 population and housing census, the district's population stands at 53,073 individuals, comprising 28,154 males and 24,919 females.

Serving as the primary political and administrative entity at the district level, the Bia East District assembly wields the highest authority for policy formulation within the district. At its helm is the District Chief Executive (DCE), who assumes the role of the leading political and administrative figure. Overseeing the central Administrative (CA) department is the District Coordinating Director (DCD), responsible for serving as both the central secretariat of the assembly and the hub for coordinating and harmonizing departmental efforts across the district.

With a total of eighteen members, including the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament representing the Bia East Constituency, the Bia District Assembly assumes the role of the paramount political, administrative, and planning body within its jurisdiction. The Member of Parliament holds an ex-officio position in the assembly.

Despite its endeavors, the Bia East District grapples with developmental challenges, particularly concerning population density and social infrastructure, leading it to be categorized as one of the less developed districts in the nation. Numerous communities within the district lack fundamental amenities such as clean water, adequate healthcare, suitable housing, environmental hygiene, and quality educational facilities. Compounding these challenges is the limited road network, which further hampers effective marketing and service delivery.

However, the Bia East District Assembly, in partnership with its development collaborators, remains steadfast in its commitment to implementing robust accelerated development initiatives. The aim is to elevate living standards and foster comprehensive progress, thus overcoming the obstacles that lie ahead.
