New Juaben North Municipality - Effiduase

Stories and facts

In 2018, Ghana underwent a restructuring of its local governance system, leading to the creation and upgrading of 38 new district assemblies. Among these, the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly came into being, forming an integral part of the Eastern Region's 33 Municipalities and Districts. It was carved out of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly and established with Legislative Instrument (LI) 2302, with Effiduase serving as its capital.

On March 15, 2018, the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly was officially inaugurated alongside the other 37 newly created districts. The establishment marked the beginning of a new era for the residents, as they gained access to a more localized form of governance, aimed at addressing their specific needs and promoting development.

This region is bordered by the Abuakwa North Municipal to the north, the New Juaben South Municipal to the south, the Yilo Krobo Municipal to the east, and the Suhum Municipal to the west. This strategic location places the municipality at the crossroads of various communities, facilitating trade and social interactions.

As of the 2021 population and housing census, the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly was home to approximately 93,201 residents. Among them, there were 46,402 males and 46,799 females, contributing to the diverse and vibrant character of the region. The population's steady growth over the years signals the municipality's attractiveness as a place to live and work.

With its relatively young age as a municipal assembly, New Juaben North faces both opportunities and challenges. The local government and stakeholders have been actively engaged in promoting infrastructural development, education, healthcare, and socio-economic progress. As the district continues to evolve, it holds the potential to become a hub for various industries, fostering economic growth and prosperity for its residents.

The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly represents a promising addition to Ghana's system of local governance. Established in 2018, the district has quickly grown to become an essential player in the Eastern Region, catering to the needs of its diverse population. As development efforts continue to gain momentum, the future looks bright for New Juaben North as it strives to enhance the quality of life for its residents and contribute to the overall progress of Ghana.
