Aburi Girls' Senior High School, previously known as Aburi Girls' Secondary School and affectionately referred to as ABUGISS, stands as a cornerstone of education in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Established in 1946 with a modest enrollment of seven students, its roots trace back to 1852 when Basel Missionaries inaugurated a primary school for girls within the town. Over the years, its evolution saw the integration of various educational levels, including teacher training and secondary classes.
Managed by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana since 1950, the school underwent significant transformations, including relocation to its current site on the outskirts of Aburi in 1954.
Notably, in 1972, under the leadership of Joyce Asibey, negotiations with the Methodist Church led to the acquisition of premises formerly housing the Methodist Training College. This strategic move aimed to mitigate instances of bullying by providing additional accommodation for students.
Situated amidst the picturesque Akuapem Mountains, Aburi Girls' Senior High School has continually upheld its commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.
The school boasts a diverse range of academic programs, including Business, Visual Arts, Home Economics, General Science, and General Arts, catering to the varied interests and talents of its student body.
In recent years, Aburi Girls' Senior High School has garnered attention on the global stage. Twelve of its students have been selected to represent Ghana in the inaugural Global Robotics Competition, showcasing the institution's dedication to fostering innovation and technological prowess among its students.
Furthermore, the school has achieved remarkable success in national examinations, clinching top honors in Mathematics and Science categories in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) between 2011 and 2015.
Notably, in 2015, it swept three prestigious awards in the National Best School and Best Teacher Awards for the Senior High School Division in the Eastern Region.
