Established through Legislative Instrument (LI) 1919 in 2008, the Akyemansa District emerged from the Birim North District, encompassing an expanse of 606 square kilometers. Positioned at approximately longitude 10°10'W and latitude 10°E, the district finds itself located between two significant commercial centers, Oda and Nkawkaw. Its administrative hub, Akyem Ofoase, resides at the crossroads of the New Abirem-Oda-Nkawkaw roads.
Bordered by the Birim North District to the north, and to the west by the Asante Akim South Municipal, Bekwai Municipal, and Adansi South District, all situated within the Ashanti region. To the south, it meets the Birim Central Municipal, while its eastern boundaries are shared with the Atiwa West District and Kwaebibirem Municipal.
As of the 2021 population and housing census, the district's population totals 91,038 individuals, comprising 45,266 males and 45,772 females.
An integral component of the District Assembly's organizational structure and operations is the Coordinating Directorate, which functions as the assembly's administrative and technical arm. Heading this office is the District Coordinating Director, charged with aiding the Assembly in fulfilling its responsibilities. These include orchestrating and aligning the work programs of both the District Assembly departments and decentralized units. The Central Administration encompasses diverse functions such as budget management, development planning, environmental health, human resource management, internal audit, and registry services.
