Emerging from a strategic administrative reconfiguration, the inception of the Amansie South District Assembly took place in 2018. This administrative restructuring led to the division of the Amansie West District Assembly, marking the establishment of 38 new and upgraded district assemblies across the nation. The establishment of the Amansie South District Assembly, governed by the provisions of Legal Instrument (LI) 2325, has spotlighted the southern expanse of the Ashanti Region. Its headquarters, centrally located in Adubia, serves as a hub for administrative activities that oversee an expansive land area of approximately 1,364 square kilometres.

The geographical borders of the Amansie South District are demarcated by its contiguous districts. To the north lies the Amansie West District, while to the east, the district shares boundaries with the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal and the Atwima Mponua District. To the west, it interfaces with the Amansie Central Municipal and the Obuasi Municipal, and to the south, it converges with the Upper Denkyira West District. These interlinked borders position the district as an integral component of the larger regional landscape, fostering collaborative partnerships and synergistic development endeavors.

As revealed by the 2021 Population and Housing Census, the Amansie South District is home to a population of 116,366 individuals. This demographic composition comprises 61,460 males and 54,906 females, reflecting the district's vibrant diversity.
