The genesis of the Nanton District Assembly can be traced back to the year 2018 when it was carved out from the pre-existing Savelugu-Nanton District Assembly, standing as a testament to Ghana's commitment to local governance and development. Among the cohort of 38 newly created and upgraded District Assemblies in 2018, the Nanton District Assembly took its place, established under the auspices of Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2347. Its designated administrative center is Nanton, a locale of significance within the district's administrative framework. Nanton District encompasses a diverse tapestry of 67 communities, underscored by 2 Area Councils, 118 Unit Committees, and 20 Electoral Areas, fostering an intricate web of grassroots representation.

As a testimony to its demographic significance, the Nanton District witnessed a population of approximately 57,055 as recorded during the 2010 Population and Housing Census. Guided by a growth rate of 2.7%. Encompassing an expansive land area spanning 693.1 square kilometers, the Nanton District paints a captivating landscape, rich in both geographical and cultural dimensions.
