Labone Senior High School, popularly known as L-A Bone, is a public senior high school situated in Labone, within the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
Renowned for its excellence in the National Science and Maths Quiz, athletics, music, and cultural activities, the school has a rich history of academic and extracurricular success.
Established in 1949 by six Ghanaian leaders, Labone Senior High School was initially a private institution located in the Ako Adjei Area, aimed at providing educational opportunities for the youth in Osu and La.
Following Ghana's independence, President Kwame Nkrumah emphasized the importance of widespread educational facilities for national development. This led to the creation of the Ghana Educational Trust, tasked with constructing school buildings nationwide, including the relocation of Labone Senior High School to its current site.
The school's crest, created by the distinguished Nii Amon Kotei, who also designed Ghana's national coat of arms, features a shield divided into four quarters by fishing rope running horizontally and vertically.
Each quarter bears a symbolic motif: the early sun in the top right signifies "Make hay while the sun shines"; a crossed pen and torch light on an open book in the top left symbolizes "the pen is mightier than the sword"; a crossed pickaxe and cutlass in the bottom left represents "dignity in labor"; and the oil palm tree in the bottom right suggests usefulness and productivity.
Labone Senior High School offers a diverse curriculum including Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, Science, General Arts, and Music.
Its facilities are extensive, comprising a Science Lab, Computer Lab, Library, Home Economics Unit, Football Field, Volleyball and Basketball Courts, Baseball Field, Visual Arts Unit, Music Lab, Naval Cadet, and a Physical Education Unit.
These resources contribute to the holistic development of students, fostering both academic and extracurricular excellence.
