Evolution
Originally, Anloga District was a component of the larger Keta District. This transformation occurred on March 10, 1989, when the area emerged as an independent district, subsequently forming from the former Anlo District Council. Notably, a significant alteration transpired on February 19, 2019, when the western segment of the district achieved autonomy as the Anloga District. This delineation was realized as part of the inauguration of six new districts by the Akufo-Addo Government, with the remaining portion of the district being reconstituted as the Keta Municipal District. The district's administrative nucleus, the district assembly, is prominently situated in the southeastern quadrant of the Volta Region, with Anloga serving as its capital town.
Geographical Attributes
Anloga District is strategically positioned to the east of the Volta estuary, approximately 160 kilometres east of Accra. This locale is accessible via the Accra-Aflao main road and lies within Longitudes 0.53E and 0.89W, as well as Latitudes 5.47N and 5.79S. Its geographical borders are contiguous with Keta District to the east, South Tongu District to the west, Akatsi South District to the north, and the enchanting Gulf of Guinea to the south.
Population Dynamics
The district's demographic dynamics were gleaned from the 2010 Population and Housing Census results of the Keta District. As of 2010, the population of Anloga District was recorded at 82,693 individuals. The demographic distribution showcases a balance between genders, with 53.6 percent representing females and 46.4 percent males. The population's growth, captured by an annual rate of 2.5 percent, is indicative of the district's vitality. Intriguingly, Anloga District stands as one of the most urbanized districts within the Volta Region. An impressive 53.3 percent of the populace resides in urban centers, while the remaining 46.7 percent calls rural landscapes their home. This trend is expected to persist, with projections estimating a population surge to 104,594 by the year 2020.
Economic Landscape
Within the district's economic tapestry, a diverse spectrum of employment pursuits thrives. Notably, approximately 35 percent of individuals aged 15 and above are engaged in skilled roles within agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Craft and related trades constitute 25.4 percent of the workforce, while services and sales occupations account for 21.8 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, clerical support workers and technicians, alongside associate professionals, represent the smallest portion, comprising only 1 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively.
