The administrative capital of Ashaiman Municipal is Ashaiman, located about 4km to the North of Tema and approximately 30km from Ghana's capital, Accra. While Tema lies on the Greenwich Meridian at Longitude 0 0, Ashaiman is situated at Latitude 5° 42’ North and Longitude 0° 01’ West.
The Municipality shares its boundaries with Tema Metropolitan to the east, Ledzokuku Municipal to the south, Adentan Municipal to the north, and La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal to the west.
According to the 2021 population and housing census, the population of Ashaiman Municipality stands at 208,060, comprising 103,410 males and 104,650 females.
The Central Administration Department serves as the Secretariat of the Municipal Assembly, providing crucial support services and ensuring effective and efficient general administration and organization of the Assembly. At the helm of this department is the Coordinating Director / Deputy Director. It oversees various sections of the assembly, including Records, Estate, Transport, Logistics and Procurement, Accounts, Stores, Security, and Human Resources.
The MPCU takes charge of coordinating and monitoring the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of development plans and budgets for the Municipal Assembly, Decentralized Departments, and Central Administration. This unit comprises the Municipal Planning, Municipal Budget Preparation, and Monitoring and Evaluation sections, all led by the Municipal Coordinating Director.
The MIS unit is responsible for conducting research activities and managing the information systems of ASHMA (presumably the name of the organization). It serves as the central data bank for information and includes the Research and Management Information Systems and Information sections, led by the Management Information Systems Officers.
The Internal Audit Divisions are entrusted with planning and conducting internal audits within the Assembly. They also coordinate the work of internal audit units in adherence to the standards, practices, and principles set forth by the Internal Audit Agency Act 2003. The unit is headed by the Director of Internal Audit and an Assistant Internal Auditor. Additionally, the Local Government Inspectorate, which is the internal audit unit, and the Public Relations Officers, serving as the official spokesperson of ASHMA, both report to the Municipal Coordinating Director.
