Positioned to the northeast of the Kumasi Metropolis, it shares its borders with various administrative entities: Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on its east, south, and west, Kwabre East Municipal on the northwest, and Ejisu Municipal on the southeast.

Despite its relatively modest land area, the Municipality boasts a substantial population. As recorded by the 2021 Population and Housing Census, its population stands at 191,402 individuals. This populace is distributed across ten distinct electoral areas, namely: Aboabo No.1, Aboabo No.2, Adukrom, Akurem, Asokore Mampong, Sawaba, Asawasi, New Zongo, Sepe-Tinpom, and Akwatialine Electoral Areas. The demographic breakdown reveals 93,506 males and 97,896 females, highlighting a balanced gender distribution within the area.
