It covers an area of approximately 63 square kilometers, accounting for about 18% of the region's total area. The municipality shares its borders with Ga South Municipal in the Greater Accra Region to the east, Awutu Senya West District to the north, and Gomoa East District to the west and south.

The political and administrative structure of the municipality involves a Municipal Chief Executive appointed by the President, subject to approval by at least two-thirds of the Assembly Members. The General Assembly meetings are chaired by a presiding member. The Assembly consists of nineteen members, six appointed and thirteen elected. Additionally, the Municipality is divided into six zonal councils: Zongo, Ofaakor, Akweley, Opeikuma, Walantu, and Kpormetey. It comprises thirteen electoral areas and one constituency known as Awutu Senya East Constituency.

Regarding its geographical features, the municipality's topography mainly consists of isolated undulating highlands in the Ofaakor and Akweley areas. The soil type varies between loamy soils in highland areas and clay soils in lowland areas. The Okrudu River drains into the sea, leading to occasional flooding during the rainy season. The climate is one of the hottest in Ghana, with high temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C throughout the year. Rainfall is heavy between March and September, with an average of approximately 750mm.

The Awutu Senya East Municipal's economy is primarily driven by trading (wholesale/retail), agro-processing, and the informal service and commerce sectors. Trading and related activities employ about 35.7 percent of the working population. Livestock production also plays a role but on a smaller scale. The informal sector, particularly in banking and services, contributes significantly to employment.

The transportation network within the Municipality includes 625 km of roads, with 20.6 km of paved roads and the rest being gravel/earth roads. Communication and information are readily accessible due to the municipality's proximity to the capital city, Accra, and its access to various telecommunication networks.

In terms of demographics, the population of Awutu Senya East Municipal stands at 236,527, with a youthful population comprising 38.3 percent of the total. The majority of the inhabitants are Guans, with other ethnic backgrounds represented, such as Gas, Akans, Ewes, and others. The predominant languages spoken are Akan and English.

Agriculture is an essential economic activity, with about 10.7 percent of households engaged in farming, mostly focused on crop farming. Poultry, particularly chicken farming, is the dominant animal reared in the municipality.
