Situated as one of the 29 MMDAs in the Greater Accra Region, it plays a pivotal part in the region's social, economic, and cultural vitality.

Located in the northern expanse of the Greater Accra Region, the geographical location of the Ga East Municipal Assembly profoundly influences its character. Its administrative hub is proudly located in Abokobi, from where the municipality coordinates its various functions, decisions, and endeavors that shape the lives of its residents.

Recent data from the 2021 population and housing census reveals that the municipality is home to 283,379 individuals. Within this diverse population, there is a balanced gender distribution, with 140,015 males and 143,364 females, contributing to the vibrant social fabric of the area. These residents collectively embody a spectrum of aspirations, ambitions, and contributions that collectively steer the course of the Ga East Municipal Assembly.

A defining feature of the Ga East Municipal Assembly is its strategic positioning in relation to neighboring MMDAs. It shares borders with the Ga West Municipal to the west, the La Kwantanang Municipal to the east, the sprawling Accra Metropolitan area to the south, and the Akwapim South District to the north.
